I created this image in late April feeling that this country was in great distress. By early May the Nomad, my tiny art dwelling, was broken into and vandalized in the midst of the city’s shelter in place where its isolation made it vulnerable.
I was at a loss for words at the combined effects that was impacting Black people so disproportionally that it profoundly hit HOME.
After the most recent series of unarmed Black people being killed by police, I was compelled to write this poem, I AM NOT OK!
While my home can be secured and repaired, the loss of beloved people in our community can never be made whole again!
Our lives, homes and streets have never been safe spaces in this country, because our social foundation is not on level ground. To truly create a stable and safe home this nation must emotionally dig deep into its past to rebuild on solid ground.

Please Note: This image that includes the inverted American flag in its distressed position was not used as a symbol to convey “election denialism or the insurrection”. The photo collage was created in the wake of the global pandemic and the killing of George Floyd by the police, which also coincided with the vandalism of my artwork the NOMAD, collectively these issues were the crisis that compelled my creative response.
